According to Money Management, the top 10 financial planning firms have an approximate client to advisor ratio of 320 to 1. Could you develop and sustain a deep personal relationship with 320 individual people? Typically this means an advisor will focus his/her time and effort on their 'top' clients (ie the wealthiest, most profitable ones) and delegate the work of other clients to assistants or para-planners. We ask "If you're not the wealthiest client, is this what you really expect to pay for?". To pay a trainee planner who is learning on the job as they prepare your advice. Our guess is probably not. Ask your advisor the following questions: "Do your use para-planners or assistants on my advice?" and "How many clients do you have?".
Invest View's approach to client relationships - We have a policy of limiting our clients to 75 per planner. This ensures our advisors develop a strong relationship with each client; they actually devise, write and hence thoroughly understand your strategy; our advisors are on top of your strategies and investment position; and our clients can deal directly at all times with their own advisor.
You should learn and understand
Our advisors would rather work in partnership with you as a client rather than you not fully understanding the advice provided or the issues involved. We have a plain English policy that breaks down the financial jargon and ensures you always can stay on top of your own finances and we also seek to educate our clients as the relationship progresses over time.
